Gol Tong Chicken: Reviews & Ratings
**4.6/5 Gol Tong Chicken Koreatown LA: Crispy Korean Fried Bliss in a Cozy Hole-in-the-Wall** Tucked on a busy stretch of Western Ave in Koreatown, **Gol Tong Chicken** is the kind of well-lit hole-in-the-wall that feels like a blast from the past—bright neon signs, simple counter seating, spotless glass cases showcasing golden fried perfection, and that unmistakable smell of fresh oil and garlic hitting you at the door . It’s small, no-frills, and packed with locals who clearly know this is one of Ktown’s underrated fried chicken gems. I got the **half & half boneless**—original soy garlic and chili sauce—and it was a mountain of crispy, juicy thigh meat that arrived piping hot. The fry is spot-on: super crunchy exterior that stays crisp even under sauce, tender inside with no dryness. The owner was genuinely **nice**, chatting about the recipes, offering extra radish with a smile, and making sure everything was perfect. Service felt personal in the best way. That said, minor deductions for flavor balance. The **seasoning** was solid but a touch **average**—could use a deeper garlic punch in the original. Both sauces leaned **over-sauced** (glossy and generous, but some pieces got soggy fast), and the overall profile trended **too sweet and savory** for my taste—the chili had good heat, but the sweetness dominated a bit more than ideal. Still, at this quality and portion size, Gol Tong is an easy win for Korean fried chicken cravings. It’s not trying to be trendy; it’s just reliably delicious in that old-school way. I’ll be back—probably for the whole chicken next time to mix sauces myself. Ktown classic worth supporting.
It’s nice seeing people live out their dreams and make something so nice. I heard about this place and had to try it. We got the smaller directors cut. Ngl this was amazing to see and it taste just as good. The Soy garlic was my favorite sauce. Now I know fruit and fried chicken is different but it’s nice actually . All the flavors or salty and sweet come together nicely. The place is alittle small but it’s impressive that it’s a one man show. Highly recommended if you are in the area .
One of the most interesting Korean fried chicken places - chicken served with fruit. Both the chicken and fruit were excellent quality. The meat was crispy and moist, and they definitely give you your money's worth with how big the pieces are as well as how much is served. The fruit is fresh, sweet, varied, and abundant. I'm not quite sure what the point of piling fried chicken and fresh fruit together was though. It looks interesting and is a unique combination, but it's not even that the chicken is made with the fruit to integrate the flavors together; it's just the chicken is fried and the fruit is thrown on top of it. Try it if you're looking for something unique. Also, credit to the owner, as he's the only one working there (at least when I was there), and he maintained a quick and friendly service.
One of the most unique food experiences I’ve had. The chicken was exceptional in flavor and texture. Then add his in house sauces and fruit?! Crazy good. Can’t recommend it enough!
If his films are as good as his chicken you’re in for a real treat. I think this is a one man operation so drinks are self serve and you may have to wait but it was worth it. Great for group as the portions are huge. Chicken was both crispy and juicy. The owner is so sweet and it seems he cares about the customer experience. The only thing missing for me was a beer, it would have been the perfect combination.
Simply outstanding Korean fried chicken with a super unique twist! Fried to crunchy perfection while remaining so tender and juicy inside. Topped with wide variety of fresh fruit And those sauces are sticky goodness!
10 out of 5! I've been wanting to try this place for a while and it absolutely lived up to the hype! The chicken was crispy, the sauces were delicious and the fruit and avocado were all perfectly ripe. Like, how does he do that? Speaking of the owner, he radiates great energy! He gives warm and friendly vibes. This place is a must try if you're in the area! Also, the portions are massive! Come ready to eat and bring friends!
Hectic but fun interior, great service (it’s a one man operation) and the food was impeccable. Every bite is a new and amazing flavor combo and it never gets old bc fruit is seasonal and changes. Plus the order you eat elements and the sheer combinations of textures and flavors on the plate are so numerous you’re not gonna get bored. Unique, Fun and delicious. Worth every penny.
